Identity checks for people who meet online

Know who you're meeting.

Trust Engine is a quick, consent-based identity check. The other person verifies their ID and a selfie, and you see that it's really them. No account needed.

Start a trust check$3.00 per check. Refunded if they say no.

How it works

  1. You start a trust check and send the other person a link.
  2. They see exactly what will be shared, agree, and verify their ID and a selfie with our provider, Didit.
  3. You get a limited result: Trust Check Complete, their verified name, and when it was done. Never their ID or photos.

Questions

What is a trust check?

A quick way to confirm that someone you met online is who they say they are. You send them a link; they agree and verify a government ID and a live selfie with our identity provider, Didit. You then see a limited result: whether the check completed, the name on their ID, and when it was done.

What does the other person have to do?

Open the link, read who is asking and why, and decide. If they agree, they take a photo of their ID and a short selfie on their phone. It usually takes a few minutes. They don't need an account, and neither do you.

What will I see, and what won't I see?

You see: Trust Check Complete (or Not verified), their verified name, the type of ID, whether the selfie matched the ID, and when the check finished. If you chose the 18-or-older check, you also see whether their ID shows they are 18 or older.

You never see their ID images, selfie, document number, date of birth or address. Trust Engine doesn't store those either.

Which check should I choose?

ID check: Confirms they hold a valid government ID in their name and that a live selfie matches it.

ID check + 18 or older: Everything in the ID check, plus whether their ID shows they are 18 or older. Their date of birth is not shared. Good for dating.
